In most cases, professional travel advisors are paid by the travel partners we work with, such as cruise lines, tour companies, resorts, and other suppliers. Typically, we are only compensated after you book, complete your travel, and your trip has ended. That compensation is not an added hidden fee or extra charge built into your vacation. In fact, our pricing is often comparable to the supplier’s public pricing, but with the added benefit of personalized guidance, support, and experience.

Tipsy Travel typically does not charge a separate planning fee. There may be select occasions when a planning fee is necessary, especially for more complex or highly customized requests. If that applies, you will always be advised up front before any planning begins.

Some closed-loop cruises, meaning cruises that begin and end at the same U.S. port, may allow U.S. citizens to sail with other approved proof of citizenship, such as a certified birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. However, requirements can vary by cruise line, destination, itinerary, and traveler age. CBP also notes that U.S. citizens traveling internationally by air are required to present a valid U.S. passport, which matters if an emergency requires you to fly home from another country. 

As for passport validity, many countries require your passport to be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates, and some airlines may deny boarding if that requirement is not met. Because rules vary by destination, the safest practice is to ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date. 

Bottom line: even if your cruise may allow alternative documentation, a valid passport is the best protection. It gives you more flexibility, helps avoid unnecessary travel stress, and can be extremely important if plans change unexpectedly while you are away.
